Last week I went down to The Waste Centre in Durban. If you are a
sewer and you've been to Durban, you will have visited this Institution!
It's been around for years and stocks just about everything that is
fabric related.
I was looking for backing fabric for some cushions
I have been commisioned to do. The shweshwe fabric I found will do
very nicely.

Durban Fashion
I don't usually do fashion on my blog, but I do love to do Durbanish things! So ...Here are some of my daughter's shots from The Dept of Fashion and Textiles at the Durban University of Technology's annual fashion show, where 22 students showcased their fashion ranges last week.

Wool and Weave
My friend Liz has just relocated her Wool Shop to lovely new premises
in Hillcrest. I went to the Official Opening on Saturday and enjoyed
the inspiring environment. If you love to create things with needles and
live in [or are visiting] Durban, it is well worth a visit!

Comrades Marathon
Yesterday, we had about 10 000 people run almost past our home in the Comrades Marathon - [the worlds oldest and largest Ultramarathon] We
live on a peninsula in a hilly area, so we become totally
neighbourhood-locked for the duration of the race in our area. Many
people in the community take their breakfast and chairs to the roadside
and encourage the runners along.

A Happy Story
A while ago, Jeanine Hays of Aphrochic asked me if I knew how she could get hold of some porcupine quill lampshades!
Soon, 2 readers came up with some suggestions. Jeanine says she now has some on order and will let me know when they arrive! How lovely to help each other out from opposite sides of the world!
The first place I thought of looking was Cecile and Boyd - a homeware store in Durban .They did not have the lampshades we were looking for - But it is one of my most inspiring Decor Destinations.

Art Deco Lighting
Andryn2006 has a series of Durban Art Deco pics on flickr well worth looking at. This is the Memorial Building Tower at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal. It is a lovely example of Durban Art Deco Architecture. StrayJon has another interesting view of the same tower.
